Christ Church

Liz went to Christ Church today.  Worship services have been celebrated nearby since the town started in 1736, and in a church building since 1808.  Ross went to the community church, and Ross’s stepdad went to the Presbyterian church where they had their Scottish service with 10 bagpipes and full tartans.  So many ways to worship!

God is good!

Riding bikes at Jekyll

Today we rode bikes with Ross’ sister Stacy on Jekyll Island.   Ate Mexican food for lunch and downed some ice cream when we were done.

Then walked on the beach where the question was, are there sand dimes as well as sand dollars?

Only one week left at the fort!

We only have 10 more days here at the fort.  Last night all the volunteers went out for barbecue and had a good chat.  Lots of nice people.

I haven’t been able to do any more carving, but learned a lot in the process.  Ross has been clearing brush and helping to create a new picnic area.

Many historical signs are on the island.  Here is one about the Wesley brothers.  They had a really rough time here in Georgia but maybe it helped them.  God is good.

Schnitzelbank

Liz was carving spoons today, and learned a new word. Schnitzelbank!  That is the carving bench I am using which would have been commonly used in 1736 Georgia.  People would have carved handles for their axes as well as  spoons like I am doing.

Fort Pulaski

We went out to Fort Pulaski yesterday.   It was built to protect Savannah from the British, but it was used in the civil war instead. Then it was used the lighthouse keepers who kept a garden in the fort.  The tree is a pecan tree, and the big dead short tree is apparently a fig tree.  Never knew how big those got!

Midweek

Cold blast last night!  Dipped a bit below freezing.  Today was sunny.  Went for a walk after work to watch the sunset for a bit.

Below is a view of the Frederica River by what is left of the fort part of Frederica.  Still haven’t seen any dolphins yet….visitors have, I have just missed them…

Prayer

Today was a general day for prayer.  I have been fed thru different churches and reading about earlier Christians.  God has been so good to us.  Below is the Wesley Tree which is nearby.  Charles Wesley preached here during the 1736 era of Frederica.  Just another reminder that God’s grace endures for generations.

Just rain

We just had rain here and some thunderstorms.  A tornado was spotted 4 miles away but we are fine.  Ross’ family is fine as well.  The radar shows how the tornado went east of us and we were safe in the middle of what is a hole.

We just had a chill afternoon and evening in the camper.

There was a big puddle on site this morning. A heron was bathing in it.  Rangers were joking about naming the puddle!

Storm preparedness

A storm is supposed to hit tomorrow consisting of 45 mph gusts.  So they closed the monument for tomorrow.   So we went to the store to get battleship and some chocolate.

Anniversary

We all went to Jekyll Island for a nice dinner to celebrate our anniversary and Ross’ mom’s birthday.

New years

 Happy New Year!

Today we had off!  So our New Year’s Day hike was up and over the bridge to Jekyll Island.

Beautiful and sunny this afternoon.

Andrew is here!

Andrew showed up Sunday and we have been enjoying his company.  Yesterday we all rode bikes to downtown StSimons.  Last night we played gam...
